As of 6 June, our Foundation will also be involved in the fight against the exceptional flooding expected in our country. At the request of the Disaster Management Department of the Hungarian Red Cross, which has been given a coordinating role by the National Disaster Management Directorate General, we will provide for the volunteers, civilians and professionals working on the dams until the floodwaters recede.<\/p>\n\n
We are able to cater for up to 600 people a day, mainly in Budapest and Pest County, for those working on the dams at Margaret Island, V\u00e1c, Szentendre, Budakalasz and Budafok, and for those staying at the stations set up for displaced persons. Coordination and operations management staff will also require external assistance in addition to their busy work schedules. A fresh hot lunch and food for dinner will be delivered to the people working on the shelter construction at midday, as only sandwiches and drinking water are available for the staff and workers in limited quantities.<\/p>\n
The experience of the 2010 flooding in Upper Szolca shows that food is a vital necessity, as at the peak of flood defences, volunteers and coordinators often work non-stop in multiple shifts to build and maintain the defences, leaving the least material and human resources to produce and serve food.<\/p>\n
