Here is a brief overview of what we have achieved over the past year. In terms of our social work, 2010 was a year of growth for us, which the commercial sector is of course experiencing in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n
In the capital, our street food service increased from 300 a day at the beginning of the year to more than 500 people a day, who were served hot meals from Monday to Friday at Blaha Lujza Square. In 2010, a total of around 150,000 meals were distributed in this way.<\/p>\n
Since May, we have been providing a total of 300 job seekers, pensioners and needy families in \u00d3buda with rich lunches, fruit and dairy products 5 days a week. Our work is carried out in cooperation with the \u00d3buda Family Counselling and Child Protection Centre. In recognition of this, the local Municipal Council has awarded our organisation the \u00c1goston Fischer \u00d3buda Social Award.<\/p>\n
In 2010, we launched a food parcel service, which now reaches out to people in need in communities far from our sites. Once the applications have been assessed, we will distribute a package worth several thousand forints to the applicants. Over the year, we have helped more than 100 families in this way.<\/p>\n
We help families in crisis not only in \u00d3buda, but now also in \u00dajpest. We also help the residents of the Families in Transition Home with durable food to stop the process of falling into poverty, to avoid becoming homeless and to facilitate reintegration into society.<\/p>\n
In addition to ready-made meals, we also distributed food parcels containing non-perishable food, of which more than 4,000 parcels, each worth nearly HUF 4,000, were distributed in 2010.<\/p>\n
During our Christmas food distribution, we distributed around 6,000 meals or food parcels to people in need in 16 locations across the country, typically in partnership with social organisations. In Budapest, for 3 days, we gave away 1200 meals and packages a day, as well as warm clothes and toys to the masses of poor people and families.<\/p>\n
Our organisation was actively involved in helping disaster victims in 2010. During the earthquake in Haiti, the summer floods in Northern Hungary and the red mud spill, our volunteers provided hot meals to the rescue workers. Thousands of portions of consecrated food were donated during these unfortunate events and our volunteers who had been in Haiti received national awards for their efforts.<\/p>\n
This year, in the framework of our child feeding programme, we delivered cold packs, hot meals, sweets and gifts to children with disabilities at the Special Educational and Developmental Institution in Budapest, to the weekend camps of the Debrecen Family Support Service in J\u00f3zsa, and to children from minority families in Erkre.<\/p>\n
During the year, we represented our organisation at many cultural, gastronomic, youth and social events, not only with publications and lectures, but also with our food (\u00d3buda Civil Day, Eger Festival, Hegyalja Festival, Action Against Poverty Day, Equal Playground, etc.)<\/p>\n
Over the course of the year, we organised our events with the participation of more than 100 volunteers. Our target groups are people without a household, people living below the minimum subsistence level, pensioners and large families. In addition to these groups, there are also Roma families, young people in need (drug addicts, people in state care), people with disabilities, people with reduced work capacity, the unemployed and others in need, so our charitable work is also about promoting and creating equal opportunities.<\/p>\n
