We gratefully bring Week of the Needy to a close!
This year’s “Food for Life” charity campaign, “Week for the Needy,” was a true collaborative effort!
At our four food distribution sites in Budapest—in the 14th, 8th, 3rd, and 10th districts—we were able to distribute food packages along with hot meals to those in need.
Meanwhile, our dedicated volunteers in Szeged spent five days going around the city distributing emergency relief packages—a story even covered by the Szegedi Nap. In Szolnok, we distributed 130 packages; in Békéscsaba, the distribution took place with the help of volunteers; and in Debrecen, 100 families received non-perishable food items.
The packages contained 10 different types of products—pasta, paprika paste, tomato sauce, mustard, beans, flour, dates, cornmeal, rice, and bulgur—so that a little care could reach as many homes as possible.
“Week of the Needy” was preceded by a week-long tour of the country: we visited Tard, Szomolya, Szihalom, Mezőszemere, Tiszabő, and Békéscsaba, where, together with local family support workers, we helped the families facing the greatest hardships.
The result of this joint effort: 561,000 Ft in donations were received during the special week—thank you to everyone who contributed, whether through their work or financial support!
The past week has clearly shown that the fight against poverty cannot be accomplished in just two days—which is why we organized “Week of the Needy” in conjunction with World Food Day and the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
But we’re not stopping there—we’ve already begun preparations for the Christmas Feasts of Love so that even more people can have food and hope on their tables. If you’d like to help with the preparations, You can help here!
