Our branch in Pécs supports local children and families in need through a unique program. In addition to surprising students in difficult circumstances at schools in Pécs with non-perishable food packages every month, it is now also striving to inspire them through a drawing contest.

The operations of our center in Pécs are sustained by a broad network of supporters whose small but regular contributions provide our program staff with a predictable level of support. Food aid packages are delivered every month to various educational institutions, where students deemed most in need by their teachers receive the assistance. This collaboration is a fine example of the effectiveness of cross-sector cooperation.

In February, we chose the Hősök tere Elementary School, where our relief team—made up of volunteers—was warmly welcomed. On average, our local volunteers distribute 50 packages each month, containing non-perishable foods, fruit, cornflakes, and some sweets. Tamás Czimmer, principal of the Hősök tere school, expressed his gratitude for our efforts in the following few lines:

”I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your selfless support of our school, which has brought so much joy to our children. Please convey my thanks to everyone who played a part in this.”

In addition to distributing school supply kits, we’ve also announced a drawing contest for students this time, titled “Only Winners!” The title reflects the fact that there are no losers in this contest, since simply reflecting on the theme enriches the artist. The title of the current contest is: “Góranga, meaning ”be happy’,”, The theme is helping others. Through the submitted entries, our volunteers hope to gain insight into how today’s young people envision helping others and what opportunities they see for themselves in making this a reality. At the same time, they hope to raise awareness among participants and deepen their understanding of the importance of volunteer work and a helpful attitude.

Starting in March, the Pécs team of our Food for Life Program will visit more and more schools each month to help children and inspire them to learn and work together at school.
