On May 26, we will hold another special distribution of food packages and hot lunches in Óbuda for families in need living in the district. However, we warmly welcome all interested families to join us for the Children’s Day event!
Food for Life distributes 550 hot lunches every day in Óbuda. The special Children’s Day food distribution is also an extra event, similar to the one held at Christmas, when we welcome families not only with a special lunch menu but also with a food package worth several thousand forints per person. Our foundation has been organizing this program for nearly a decade, with the support of Balázs Bús, mayor of the Óbuda-Békásmegyer Local Government, the Összefogás Óbudáért Association, and the Óbuda Family Counseling Center. This collaboration is a fine example of how various organizations can work together effectively to combat poverty and deprivation. Budapest’s 3rd District is truly a leader in ensuring that every resident lives in dignified conditions.
The food distribution on Children’s Day conveys an important message from Food for Life and the devotees of Krishna; both organizations have been committed to protecting children since their inception. The program highlights that, that if we want to do what’s best for children and ensure they lead truly healthy lives, it is not enough to focus solely on the child; we must support the entire family, where they live and where they can develop most effectively. This is supported, for example, by the generous package of non-perishable food items that parents can use to cook at home.
At the same time, however, children do not derive direct joy from the assistance provided to their families—for example, when they receive flour, oil, or fuel. For them, an experience, playing together, a show of care, or a small, tasty treat is often just as important as having their basic needs met for the whole family. That’s why we always organize a playhouse and activities for Children’s Day; this year, visitors to Flórián Square can look forward to balloon twisting, a fire truck, a petting zoo, a bounce house, candy, and lemonade. At this time of year, however, Food for Life doesn’t just think of families in need. For the Children’s Day event—regardless of whether you receive a food package—we warmly welcome any family looking to play and have fun!
We believe that every child deserves healthy food, loving care, and a childhood worthy of respect. And happy children will one day become active and contented adults in our society. And if we wish to pass on values to them, we can say that caring and charity are the best examples for children.
