Children's Day Food Distributions Across the Country

More than 2,000 meals, countless packages, sweets, treats, and activities awaited the children and their families as part of the “Food for Life” Foundation’s Children’s Day event series. We visited 9 locations in just one week.

We held our third event of the year on May 25 in Békéscsaba, and it was a real success. Once again, we had activities for the children, and we welcomed them with a huge buffet table full of treats: pizza, strawberries, bananas, chocolate, Linzer cookies, and soft drinks were on the menu, much to the delight of the little ones and teens. Families left with a package of non-perishable food items, including flour, yellow peas, canned green beans, canned lecsó, canned plums, tomatoes, tomato paste, pasta, chocolate bars, assorted snacks in bags, and Gauranga cookies.

Special thanks to the Bábgyalogló Artists’ Village and Puppet Theater for organizing the event 🙂 There were also several kids among the volunteers—we’d like to thank them for their enthusiasm, too. It was a fantastic event with a great team.

Thanks to the many donations, we were also able to distribute toys in Békéscsaba.

By the way, Gauranga cookies are available at numerous stores throughout the city, and kind, enthusiastic donors can receive them as gifts; so anyone who happens to come across these cookies in a store in Békéscsaba can already support the next campaign 🙂

Meanwhile, in the capital, in Óbuda, we held our Children’s Day food distribution, which has become a tradition. On this occasion, we prepare 800 packages of non-perishable food and more than 800 servings of hot lunch for the clients of the Óbuda Family Counseling Center. We brought plenty of chocolate, treats, fruit, and gum for our guests on this occasion. The team also set up a small play area for the children; the program included balloon twisting, face painting, a children’s music show, and a magic show. The Összefogás Óbudáért Foundation brought toys and additional treats. The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service assisted families with a mobile medical clinic. As always, Mayor Balázs Bús served a hot lunch to the attendees during the event.

Then, on May 26, In Debrecen We also held a special Children’s Day food distribution on Sunday. We welcomed families with 200 servings of hot lunch, along with toys, clothing, and books. It was a fantastic day 🙂

As part of the „Like a Bite of Bread” program, we then visited Mikepércs on May 27. We distributed packages of non-perishable food and provided assistance to families invited by family support workers—a total of 130 people. There, we also received an invitation from the mayor to attend the town’s Family Day!

After that, we drove to Miskolc. There, too, we distributed packages of non-perishable food, helping 200 people. Once again, the initiative was supported by a donation from MBM Autó Kft. (Mercedes-Benz Miskolc) in Miskolc. The packages were given to students at the Mátyás Éltes Special Education School, where staff members selected the families most in need—people who are familiar with the children’s and families’ circumstances and challenges.

On May 28, we continued our series of initiatives in Törökszentmiklós. We distributed packages of non-perishable food to 60 people. In this town, the Kapocs Foundation for Assisting People with Disabilities helped us identify families in need. Among our guests were families living in difficult circumstances with one or more children who have mobility impairments or multiple disabilities. The initiative was supported by volunteers from Szolnok, who are extremely enthusiastic about continuing to support the program in the future. They also accompanied our „traveling” team to Vezseny.

We also visited Vezseny on that same day. This was our second visit this year to this small, isolated village, and we helped 80 people by distributing the packages; they were very happy to receive the donations.

The „Like a Bite of Bread” campaign took place in Veszprém on May 29. As usual, 100 servings of hot food awaited our guests. We always carry out this event in collaboration with the Egymásra Utalva Foundation.

On this day, we continued the initiative in Tapolca as well. Here, 200 hot meals were served, also in collaboration with the Egymásra Utalva Foundation.

Over the course of five days, as part of our program called „A Bite of Bread,” we were able to help 1,020 people in celebration of Children’s Day. Combined with our initiatives in Óbuda and Debrecen, we provided more than 2,000 meals and plenty of other treats. We would like to thank our local volunteers, donors, and supporters for their time, energy, donations, and kind words, which made this program possible! Don’t forget—we’re not stopping here; we’ll be continuing our initiatives soon, and we’d be happy to accept your donations to support them.
