Two venues in one day
On December 7, our team organized special food distributions in both Budapest and Szeged. Despite the bitter cold, all the plates of Székely cabbage were eaten, and all the St. Nicholas gift packages were given away. RTL Klub covered both events.
Charity Banquet at Garay Square
We organized a charity meal in Budapest’s 7th District, where we prepared 500 servings of hot food. Those waiting in line were served Székely cabbage with almond-flavored fish sauce. The food packages contained useful non-perishable items, such as rice, oil, and canned goods, and even organic squash from Krishna Valley was included. Péter Niedermüller, the mayor of the 7th District, also participated in the approximately two-hour food distribution event, serving Székely cabbage to our guests in need. Families with young children, seniors on small pensions, and lonely people in need waited in line at the event.
A woman in line said:
„We are so grateful that there are still people like this who care about those in need. I have three children and a retired father. We came from Transcarpathia; I take on odd jobs, but it’s hard to find work because we are illiterate. Even the smallest gesture is an incredible help. May God bless you all!”
St. Nicholas Day in Szeged
On the same day in Szeged, at Dugonics Square, a joyful celebration took place despite the 2-degree cold. To celebrate St. Nicholas Day, starting at 4:00 p.m., we distributed gift packages to children in need who had registered two weeks earlier. At the event, St. Nicholas himself handed out the packages and shared words of wisdom with the children in a playful manner. A total of 350 children received fruit and gift packages.
The majority of the St. Nicholas Day gifts were sponsored by Beáta Nadin Fekete, a resident of Szeged, who increased the number of packages from the originally planned 300 to 350 due to the growing number of requests. As the event approached, more parents came forward to request gifts for their children, so within a short time, 100 children were placed on the waiting list. We wanted to bring joy to every child who applied, so a week before the event, we launched a community drive to ensure we could prepare enough packages. The campaign was a success, and no one was left without a gift. The children who were on the waiting list will receive their packages during the second week of December. We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Nadin and all the „little Santas” who helped with the donation drive!
