Food-distribution charities are under enormous pressure from rising food prices, yet the Food for Life program will nonetheless hold its food distribution events during the holidays. The love feasts will welcome at least 5,400 guests at several locations in the capital and in regional cities, including Eger and Debrecen. We will also deliver free food to impoverished villages in Zala, Bács-Kiskun, and Somogy counties, as well as in the Jász region.
Struggling with price hikes – help is needed more than ever
The economic downturn caused by the pandemic has led to rising consumer prices recently, making life more difficult for many thousands of people. Civil society organizations can help to some extent. At the same time, these same civil society and religious charitable organizations are themselves struggling with soaring prices. At the Food for Life Foundation, rising prices, combined with the growing number of people needing its services, have led to a 30% increase in expenses. The free aid packages distributed contain the most essential and most expensive items: cooking oil—the price of which has risen most dramatically—flour, sugar, margarine, etc.
We expect the number of aid applications to increase, but our ability to handle this growing volume while maintaining quality will largely depend on contributions from individuals and businesses. There has never been a greater need for cooperation. Although we strive to operate on a frugal budget, price discounts, free services, and donations are essential for our aid activities to continue.

Festival at the Aid Stations
This holiday season, our food distribution program aims to serve 5,400 guests at distribution sites or at aid organizations. In most cases, local governments will review applications to determine eligibility, approving aid for those who need it most to make ends meet and celebrate Christmas properly.
Food for Life provides freshly cooked meals and baked goods to socially disadvantaged people six days a week, all year round, but now, at the food distributions, they also receive a food package containing at least 12 items—canned goods, UHT milk, sugar, cooking oil, pasta, and sweet and savory snacks.
Celebrities Behind the Counter
Every year, our volunteers also include famous people. One regular participant is conductor Ivan Fischer and his family; Dorottya Geszler will also be participating with her daughter. Bálint Molnár, a Hare Krishna celebrity who was a finalist on the TV reality show TV2 Ninja Warrior will also be coming to the People’s Forest. Despite his young age, he considers donating and helping the disadvantaged to be an important part of his life. The frontman of the band Kaukázus, János Kardos-Horváth, the winner of the songwriting contest will also help distribute food. Their presence enriches the event and draws attention to the importance of caring for our fellow human beings.
