Where sensitivity creates a school

There is one school where learning looks very different from what we are used to. There are no rows of students crammed into narrow desks - instead, there are small groups, shared tasks, and an approach that takes the inner world of a person seriously as well as the knowledge.

The Budapest School's pedagogical credo focuses on the development of emotional intelligence - EQ. Teachers believe that real joy, deep human connection and a sense of belonging in life are not achieved through lexical knowledge, but through this inner capacity. The school operates as a network of micro-schools where reciprocity, listening to each other and working as a team give learning its unique rhythm and power.

The special project task

It is in the spirit of this approach that the project seven randomly selected students - including Gópi and Palko - faced a really big challenge. They had to run the Kastner Kommunity café for a whole week: plan, organise and run it - and all this without being in the same class. Achieving this goal therefore required not only diligence, but also real coordination, trust and a shared will.

And it worked.

From the tips collected came from 238 000 forints and then the students could decide for themselves. Several ideas were put forward - but in the end our foundation was chosen. They've heard that we've got it in a good place, where it can continue to flow in what they call the EQ way.

Gópi and Palkó, together with their teachers, came to see us in person to hand over the fruits of their labour.
