A brief overview of our activities in 2011

Our foundation is dedicated to helping people in need all over the country through free food distribution. In 2011, we estimate that we distributed more than 200,000 hot meals and tons of non-perishable food, vegetables and fruit to people in need nationwide.

In the capital, we moved our Blaha Lujza Square catering service to the nearby Teleki László Square during the spring, where we continue to serve hot meals to more than 500 people every weekday. In addition to their lunch, they also receive food for dinner, baked goods, fruit and yoghurt. In total, around 125 000 meals will be distributed in 2011.

Our organisation's family support programme provides a rich lunch, fruit and dairy products to up to 500 jobseekers, pensioners and needy families in Óbuda every day, 5 days a week. We have been working in cooperation with the Óbuda Family Counselling and Child Protection Centre since 2009. Our foundation has been supported by the Municipality since April 2011 through a cooperation agreement.

Our two-year-old food parcel delivery service has become a household name nationwide, enabling us to support people in need in communities far from our sites. After processing 40-50 applications per month, we distribute a package worth thousands of forints to the applicants.

Since autumn 2011, we have been providing 40 meals a day, 5 days a week, for the children of the Bokréta Residential Homes run by the Municipality of Budapest. We have also participated in several events for children, providing toys, sweets and sustainable food for the growing generation and their families.

In addition to ready-made meals, we also distribute food parcels containing non-perishable food, of which more than 4,000 parcels worth HUF 3-4,000 each found their way to different areas of the country in 2011.

During our Christmas food distribution, we distributed around 6,000 meals or parcels to people in need across the country, usually in partnership with other social organisations. In Budapest, for 3 days a day, we gave away 1,200 meals and parcels, as well as warm clothes and toys, to the masses of poor people.

The development of our rural sites was a particular objective in 2011, and regular food distributions were launched in Debrecen, Miskolc and Eger in 2011, in cooperation with local social services.

During the year, we represented our organisation at numerous cultural, gastronomic, youth and social events, not only with publications and lectures, but also with our food (Óbuda Civil Day, opening of the Year of Volunteering, God for Good Eger, Civilkomp Conference, Children's Day events, etc.)

At the beginning of June, a new programme was launched at our Foundation: in cooperation with the Probation Service of the Ministry of Administration and Justice, we became involved in the reparative and community service employment of juveniles and young adults involved in the commission of minor crimes. Through this relationship, we are able to instil in offenders sentenced to our Foundation a way of life with strong moral and spiritual values that can serve as a model for them.

Our target groups are people without a household, people living below the minimum subsistence level, pensioners and large families. In addition to the above social stratification, there are also Roma families, young people with a problematic background (drug addicts, people in state care), people with disabilities, people with reduced work capacity, the unemployed, people with defaulted mortgages and other people in need, so our charitable work is also about promoting and creating equal opportunities.
