No Advent season goes by without a food drive. It’s a huge help to every charitable organization when shoppers simply buy more than they need for their own homes and hand over their generous donations to the volunteers running the drive.

The Hungarian Food Bank Association organized the campaign for the 17th time this year; volunteers from “Food for Life” are always present at the event, which takes place at three department stores.

Food drives peaked in 2019; since then, there has been a slight decline due to the economic situation. While volunteers previously collected 380 metric tons, 241 metric tons of food were collected this year. Let’s face it: even in the current situation, this is a testament to tremendous, selfless dedication! We cannot thank enough those heroes who care about our fellow citizens in need.

Following last year’s success, when we collected 7,300 kg, we were able to collect 5,440 kg of food as part of this campaign, which we also considered a tremendous achievement. Due to quantity restrictions on price-capped food items, sugar and flour unfortunately ran out at the stores already during the morning. But resourceful donors surprised us with plenty of pasta and rice, which are also excellent ingredients for cooking.

There’s no shortage of sweets this year either, which will be a treat especially for children and large families, but believe me, many retirees are forced to go without these kinds of treats. Now we’re going to surprise them.

All in all, it can be said that while many families were previously able to donate an entire basket of goods to the charity drive, the amount donated has now decreased due to rising prices—but the spirit of giving remains undiminished! In people’s hearts, this kindness is an eternal, inexhaustible source. Thank you for letting us be a part of this.
