The Food for Life Foundation was one of the recipients of a large donation of potatoes in Óbuda, in light of our food assistance program for the poor, which serves many people in the district.
Our foundation, the humanitarian organization of Krishna devotees, distributes 2,000 servings of hot meals and food donations daily to those in need across the country, 600 of which go to residents of Óbuda. The organization’s director, Attila Szanyi-Karl, was recently awarded the Ágoston Fischer Óbuda Social Award in recognition of his outstanding charitable work. In addition to daily assistance, we also organize special food and package distributions twice a year, during which we provide generous quantities of non-perishable food in addition to our regular food aid to families and seniors in need. This allows us to fill the empty pantries and refrigerators of many people with cooking ingredients. The next such aid distribution will take place on December 3 in the parking lot across from Flórián.
Our foundation has already distributed half of the total 8 metric tons of donated potatoes—some of it went to various locations across the country, such as Debrecen and towns in Heves and Somogy counties, and several districts in Budapest also received some of the potatoes as a result extra aid for families facing hardship. Given the drastic rise in food prices, this unexpected surprise certainly brought great joy to all the recipients. We will use the remainder of the donation to prepare hundreds of liters of fresh, nutritious hot meals each day.
