ADHAT – ADJUKÖSSZE.hu Report 2023

On June 29, 2012, our foundation signed a contract with the Nonprofit Information and Education Center (NIOK), at which time we joined the Adhat Vonal program—now known as adjumössze.hu—through which, as in previous years, we have continued to assist those in need throughout the country by distributing free meals. In 2023, we distributed more than one million servings of hot meals and a total of nearly 500 metric tons of non-perishable food, dairy products, vegetables, and fruit to our fellow citizens in need across the country.

Our foundation’s main focus is distributing free hot meals to those in need; however, we also put together packages of non-perishable food items for certain major holidays and special occasions. As part of this initiative, we are distributing packages containing non-perishable food items to those in need in Budapest, at our distribution centers in the countryside, and in other parts of the country. These packages contained non-perishable food items (canned vegetables and fruit, pasta, rice, oil, flour, sugar, etc.), as well as sweets and fruit—and we were able to cover part of the cost of the listed food items using donations received through the Adjukössze.hu donation hotline. At our rural locations and in small towns near them, our colleagues organize the distribution of the packages to those in need.

The packages distributed by the Foundation not only helped many people make ends meet, but also gave those living in poverty hope that they were not completely left to face their difficulties alone, and that there was someone they could turn to for help.

This year, there are several featured, as part of our holiday food distributions a

  • In District 7, three times (Almássy Square, Garai Square—twice there)

  • At Christmas: For 3 days in Népliget; in the provinces: in Szeged, Békéscsaba, Eger, and Debrecen

  • In Eger, we welcomed our guests with hot meals and food packages on two special occasions during the year.

As part of this year’s Christmas food distribution campaign, we were once again able to distribute more than 5,000 packages of non-perishable cold food items and nearly 7,000 servings of hot meals, bread, and hot tea to those in need.

We distributed hot meals at five distribution points in Budapest on weekdays and made deliveries to 28 shelters for the homeless six days a week.

We also distribute our products in rural areas:

– In three towns in Somogy County (Marcali, Kéthely, Horvátkút),
– Debrecen with Sunday's matchups.
– In Szeged and Békéscsaba, our colleagues occasionally go out to distribute food,
– In Eger, however, 750 servings of hot meals are served every weekday, and our guests receive non-perishable food here as well.

In summary:
In 2023, we were able to distribute 1 million meals, amounting to nearly 500 metric tons of food.
Most of the food—approximately 238,000 kg—was donated.

Each call received on the donation hotline designated for us resulted in a gross donation of 500 forint to our Foundation. During 2023, we received a total of 2,748 calls and text messages, which generated 1,305,219 forint in donations.

Of this amount, a net total of 34,225 Ft had to be reimbursed to the telephone service providers; the annual fee for Adjukössze.hu’s credit card donation collection service was 31,750 Ft, and the credit card donation intermediary fee (1,8%) was 26,045 Ft. After deducting these fees, a total of 1,158,238 forintsWe were able to allocate these funds to our program—specifically, to food distribution. Our organization used the entire amount of the donations received to assist those in need through food aid.

In 2023, we continued to strive to help as many people as possible, since—following several difficult years—the financial crisis that ensued almost immediately, coupled with rising inflation, has left those in need in an even more difficult situation; without support, most of them cannot even support themselves or their families. Based on our observations, members of the lower middle class have become a prominent group among our guests, and the number of people living on small pensions has once again increased.

The goal is to ensure that no one in Hungary is left without help. Social responsibility is not just about donations; it’s about actively participating in improving the quality of life for those around us.

We hope that our work and our free services will be of great help to those in need, and that our support will make it easier for them to make ends meet..

Finally, we would like to thank all of our dear supporters who, through their phone calls and text messages, to the operation and success of our program, as well as to the NIOK Foundation, OTP Bank, and all service providers for making this program possible and thereby helping civil society organizations increase their funding!
