The ancient books of India hold that the Earth provides enough food for all living things by divine design, but modern society is plundering the Earth's precious resources through insatiable greed.
More than a third of the world's cereals are consumed by cattle and other farmed animals - but this could feed thousands of people a year. But these poor animals are kept solely for their meat, which only a few people have access to after processing. The Food for Life mission is essentially to bring a peaceful balance to the world's food supply by distributing vegetarian food free of charge. Today, as a result of the sincere efforts of Krishna devotees, the programme has grown into the world's largest vegetarian food movement.
Based on the teachings of ancient India based on the Vedas, Krishna devotees eat only food prepared from vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy products and oil seeds that have been offered as a sacrifice to God. According to the religion, these sacred foods purify the heart and soul, so the food offered by Krishna devotees not only satisfies bodily needs but also helps to restore the soul's original loving relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
