The Krishna Community of Believers in Hungary is helping needy children in Kisterenye, Nógrád County, with seven hundred and fifty meals between the two holidays.
According to the religious community, the Krishna devotees of Eger, at the request of the NGO Jeromaf, have undertaken to feed 150 children a day between 27 and 31 December, providing them not only with a hot lunch, but also with fruit and dairy products in the old kindergarten building.
The action is much needed because families in the municipality, who live in poor conditions, are unable to feed their children properly during the school holidays. In Kisterenyé, unemployment is extremely high, children have hardly any escape, they learn in unheated flats, mostly by candle, and their meals are inadequate," the Crisis Group said in a statement.
The religious community's mission to feed the poor, the Meals for Life programme, has already received several similar requests. During the various kindergarten and school holidays, many small villages are unable to feed their children, as the only daily meal is provided by the educational institution, according to a statement sent to MTI on Thursday.
