Our foundation is organizing a fun-filled festival combined with a large-scale food distribution to celebrate Children’s Day at the large parking lot on Flórián Square in Óbuda on Saturday, May 27, 2017, starting at 11:00 a.m.

Food Distribution for Residents of Óbuda

This year, we were greeted by a particularly cool, rainy spring, which has dressed the streets and squares of Budapest in a greener, more lush mantle than usual. It is in this refreshing May setting that we’ll be holding our Children’s Day food distribution event, combined with an outdoor play area, in the parking lot across from Flórián Square in Óbuda, at the corner of Szőlő Street and Vörösvári Road. Alongside the free children’s activities, 800 servings of hot meals and non-perishable food packages will be distributed to local residents in need, as identified by the Óbuda Family Assistance Center.

In addition to the delicious green pea stew, fresh baked goods, and Indian rice pudding, each of our recipients will receive a food package containing 20 items per person. The package is expected to contain pasta, sugar, flour, rice, lemon juice, margarine, dates, raisins, Pufi salty extruded corn flakes, glucose, household cookies, Mesefit cookies, cottage cheese bars, string cheese, cornflakes, chocolate, bread, bananas/apples, canned goods, a dish sponge, and matches.

The “Together for Óbuda” Association will also be participating in the event; they will be handing out toys and candy and keeping interested children entertained with logic games.

As has become customary over the years, Mayor Balázs Bús will once again be our guest and supporter; he has been supporting our food distribution efforts in the district for many years.

The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service’s mobile medical clinic (MOR), which provides health care, will be available to those in need; during consultations, people struggling with the disease will be able to receive essential medications, vitamins, and health and social counseling.

An Outdoor Playhouse for Every Child

To celebrate Children’s Day, we’re treating every child who comes to the event—whether they’re from Budapest or elsewhere in the country—to free, fun activities. The event will feature a bounce house, balloon twisting, exciting arts and crafts activities, Indian face painting, and live music. The little ones will also have the chance to try out a real fire truck, sit in the driver’s seat, or aim a pump-action water hose at a target. We’ll treat every participant at the playhouse to a large glass of lemonade.

Children's Day Surprises in Various Locations Across the Country

To mark Children’s Day, volunteers from “Food for Life” are preparing festive events at locations throughout the countryside. In Debrecen, the traditional weekend food distribution will be supplemented with the distribution of books and toys; families referred by the local family assistance service are expected to attend.

On May 25 in Pécs, hot meals, sweets, and toys will be distributed to families in need.

In Szolnok, at the invitation of the Kornéliusz Háza Missionary Association, volunteers for the program are preparing treats for more than 100 children and their chaperones.

In Kaposvár, children at the school for students with disabilities are being welcomed with gifts in celebration of the upcoming Children's Day.
