The Óbuda Social Award named after Ágoston Fischer was awarded this year to the Food for Life Public Benefit Foundation.
In recognition of the Foundation's sacrificial work to improve the lives of the poor and needy in the 3rd district, it received the award named after the pastor of St. Alajos, who founded the St. Alajos Helping Association in the early 1900s in every district of the capital. The award was presented by Mayor Balázs Bús to Péter Szilaj, member of the Board of Trustees. For almost two years, the foundation has been providing hundreds of people in the district with hot meals five days a week. They also provide bread, fruit and occasionally non-perishable food to job seekers, pensioners and families in need. Warm clothes are also distributed at Christmas. The Foundation is also supported by the Óbuda Family Counselling and Child Protection Centre, and the Óbuda Rehabilitation and Employment Centre is available to those in need who are in the sight of the municipality.
