The Meals for Life Foundation will hold its next food distribution in the capital on 20 October. In the Népliget, behind the Planetarium, they will be waiting for the needy with 900 meals and a durable food package, which, as always, will be a donation worth thousands of forints. It will mainly consist of long-lasting ingredients for cooking, but also fruit, delicacies and speciality foods that most people in need almost never have access to.
The Autumn Food Distribution is in celebration of the World Day for Combating Poverty and Food, which is commemorated around the world on 16 and 17 October. The two important World Food Days were proposed by the United Nations to raise awareness of the serious hunger that exists worldwide, but also of the phenomenon of quality hunger in the Western world today. This is currently a more common problem in Europe and developed welfare countries than literal hunger. Qualitative starvation means that, although the intake of food is adequate in quantity, it is of insufficient quality, i.e. it is characterised by a severe lack of vitamins, nutrients and minerals, in addition to the typical over-consumption of calories. This is often the cause of the widespread diseases of our time, and the underlying causes are often due to difficult financial circumstances that do not allow for a varied diet rich in fruit and fibre. At the same time, the Krishna food programme also aims to raise awareness of the importance of a vegetarian diet as an essential component of a healthy diet, which, if chosen wisely, provides all the nutrients a consumer needs. A non-violent, meat-free diet is better for the natural environment, for wildlife and for people.
Twenty types of non-perishable food will be included in the World Food Day food distribution. The distribution of wristbands will start at 8am and the food distribution itself will begin at 11am. In between, it is possible to skip the queue and come back at the start time with the wristband you have already received. .
