Family Day and Food Distribution in Óbuda

The special Children's Day food distribution in the capital has come to an end—in just one day, nearly 900 servings of hot meals, fruit, and tea, as well as 10 metric tons of food ingredients, were distributed to families in need. Volunteers from Budapest participating in the international learning program called „Pizza Effect” also attended the event.

Members of the Krishna-conscious community greeted those gathered at Flórián Square with cheerful singing, where food distribution took place in a well-organized, long, orderly line. In the welcome shade of the 22-meter-long food distribution tent set up in the grassy park, 900 servings of hot food—including Somlói galuska, halava, and rosewater lemonade—were accompanied by fruit, yogurt, and chocolate were also included in the families’ packages. The sight of the hungry families and small children waiting in line moved everyone present deeply. Those standing in line were able to leave with heavy, bulging bags filled with non-perishable food by our cheerful and helpful volunteers. We are filled with warm and beautiful memories, and we hope the same is true for those we met.

The fire truck ride, the petting zoo at the Noé Animal Shelter, the magic show, and the balloon-twisting activity were a huge hit with the children. We were delighted that Mayor Balázs Bús, the “Together for Óbuda” Association, and staff from the local Family Counseling Center were all represented at the Óbuda Family Day, as well as Minister Mihály Varga and performer Gjon Delhusa. Looking back, we can say that those who were with us were able to go to sleep that night feeling enriched in many ways.

We owe a debt of gratitude to all our volunteers for their selfless dedication and truly uplifting presence, and we thank all our supporters, each of whom contributed in their own way to the success of this program!
