Special Easter food distribution

Toys, chocolates and a shopping spree for families in need at Easter at Blaha

On Saturday 30 March, from 12 noon, we will again be holding a special food distribution in Budapest, at Blaha Lujza Square. We will be able to help 1300-1500 people with hot meals, food parcels and toys for children. We are not only expecting people from Budapest. It will be a large-scale event, similar to our traditional Christmas Relief Campaign, but this time, due to the increased interest, it will be run in a faster and safer way than usual. Due to the congestion caused by the crowds in recent years, we will try to maintain a first-come, first-served system with numbered wristbands and increased security staff. In addition, this time the service will be provided from two separate counters at the same time, rather than one, so that we hope to be able to serve all arrivals within two hours.

After a break of many years, we held a special Easter action in 2012 and found that the Christmas queue was no shorter this time. We concluded that a relief operation at any time of the year would attract similar interest, so our volunteers will again be providing a nutritious, tasty vegetarian lunch and a rich, long-lasting food parcel for those in need at Easter 2013. We will be providing exactly 25 different food items, some of which will be delivered to those in need thanks to the donors listed below (thank you!) We will also be offering a variety of sweets to please the growing number of children who will be coming to the Easter celebrations. They will be surprised not only by all the goodies, but also by the hundreds of toys distributed from the truck, which will make their holiday a joyful one. On 30 March, from 9am to 12 noon, we will be collecting any discarded but good quality toys and cleaned clothes from our tents at the Corvin parking lot in Blaha Lujza Square, which will be distributed on site during the food distribution.

ffl_etelosztasWe were looking for volunteer helpers for the event, and thanks to a Facebook campaign, the nearly 100 places were filled up in practically a couple of hours. We would like to thank everyone who came forward and hope to work with those who we were unable to accommodate for this Easter event in the future.

This year, we are organising three more special events to help families who have been hit hard by the economic crises of recent years. Easter is also a family holiday, when relatives visit each other, children receive presents, and children enjoy eating and drinking, but unfortunately more and more families are finding this period uncomfortable, as it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain the standard of living they are used to. And the daily shortages can be even more painful during the festive season. The aim of our organisation is to provide support to people in difficulty through a selfless social partnership that is fast, effective and tangible, benefiting all members of the family and meeting basic needs. We believe that helping with dedication and love of fellow human beings is an effective way to help those around us.
