Food Surplus at Easter, Too

Our food assistance program for the poor organizes four major relief efforts throughout the year in Budapest and other parts of the country. The first one will take place at Easter.

Our foundation will once again hold a special food distribution at Blaha Lujza Square on April 4, Easter Saturday, starting at 12:00 p.m. Similar to our traditional Christmas relief drive, we are planning a special event for the first weekend of April: approximately 1,500 meals and food packages containing various non-perishable items will be distributed throughout the capital.

With nearly two decades of experience, the volunteers of the Food for Life Program aim to foster an extraordinary sense of social solidarity to selflessly help our fellow human beings. In addition to the daily hardships, the Easter weekend is particularly difficult for many families because they cannot obtain enough food, making it even harder for parents to provide meals. Furthermore, deprivation during the holiday season can be emotionally taxing, and the organization aims to provide support in this regard.

Our motto is „Physical and Mental Health,” because in our day-to-day work, our goal goes beyond simply filling people’s stomachs. Beyond the fact that hot meals provide tangible help to some people, we aim to improve our society’s overall quality of life, dietary habits, and tolerance toward one another.

The Hungarian Society for Krishna Consciousness is dedicating 2015 to a series of events titled “Year of Environmental Protection.” Through this initiative, they aim to raise awareness about the protection of the environment and natural habitats, such as God to preserve his work. Closely related to this is one of the key missions of the Food for Life Foundation: to stem the ever-growing tide of surplus food that, due to improper distribution, unfortunately ends up in the trash, thereby causing serious pollution and endangering the environment. If distributed properly, this food could be put to good use even before it spoils, thereby making daily life easier for those in need.

You can help us in our efforts: Donate meat- and egg-free staple foods, or any kind of fruit or sweets, which we can include in the package when we’re putting it together. Encourage your friends and family members to give to charity, too!
