Bitterly cold, windy, icy weather is making life even harder for those who are already enduring a vulnerable winter. This kind of weather hits hardest those who often spend their days and nights in already unheated homes, so we are trying to help them as much as we can. We are preparing for the coming weeks with a high level of care across the country in view of the crisis period.
From Saturday, 4 February, we will increase the daily ration by one and a half times every day of the week. This means that we are now distributing almost 10,000 meals a week in the capital alone, and thousands more throughout the country, e.g. in the areas of Eger, Debrecen, Somogyvámos, Kecskemét, Miskolc, and, if necessary, we can also designate additional distribution points in cooperation with local authorities. In Budapest, food distribution will take place in 3 locations from Saturday: In Óbuda for clients of the family support service, at our public food distribution point on Teleki Square and at a new location at Keleti station. The Erzsébetváros Municipality will provide heated tents for the needy in the district at the end of Bethlen Gábor street towards the railway station. In this heated room, which is open day and night, we try to alleviate the hardships of the residents of the capital and people without shelter by distributing hot lunches, baked goods and hot tea from 12 noon to half past 12 every day. If you come across anyone freezing in the city centre, please let us know.
Fresh, hot meals are provided every day of the year for those in need. But on winter days, we make a special effort to provide hot, nutritious, nutrient-rich meals that keep people warm. The cold weather has also increased the demand for our food parcel service, and we try to meet these requests to the best of our capacity. Volunteers are also stepping up their efforts.
Volunteers are welcome to contact Péter Szilaj at 30/243-1486. We are waiting for donations of clothes to our centre in csillaghegy (Lehel u. 15-17., III. district), there is a great demand for winter shoes, trousers, winter coats. Thank you!
