Hundreds of kilograms of rescued food on the table

We received several hundred kilograms of high-quality, fresh button mushrooms from the Hungarian Food Bank. We delivered 250 kg of this to our office in Eger, but we also took some to Népliget in Budapest, where our guests waiting in line gratefully accepted them, as they can be used to prepare an excellent dinner or lunch for the next day. We don’t use mushrooms in our cooking, but since they are a plant-based ingredient, we’re happy to distribute them to our guests in need.

Since all kinds of food and fruit have been available year-round for decades—along with a vast array of bottled and canned ready-to-eat meals—we often choose products based on our taste or preference rather than on seasonality. As a result, it’s only natural that certain ingredients fly off store shelves when they’re in season, while at other times, fresh produce piles up by the hundredweight and ends up in the trash. Yet, given current food prices, no one can really afford to do this.

The essence of food rescue is to level out these disparities—not only in terms of daily or seasonal consumption, but also among people. After all, while some people have fresh, vitamin-rich meals on their tables every day, others literally live on bread or pasta. As a partner of the Hungarian Food Bank, we at Food for Life help with this (as well).

There are many ways you can support our work!

-> A large quantity of non-perishable food or vegetarian cooking ingredients—for example, if you sell food
-> Financial donations for our food distributions
-> Financial donations to cover incidental expenses, such as transportation, gasoline, or the necessary equipment for our new food distribution kitchen (refrigerators, pots, freezers, and kitchen appliances)
-> Your tax return with 1%—just like this year, and next year too 🙂
-> If you're a company executive or work in HR, feel free to reach out to our colleagues through other CSR initiatives 😉
-> Through volunteer work—primarily for our daily food distributions
-> By helping others discover our work, for example, by sharing this post. 🙂 <3
