Clothes, toys and chocolates await families in need at Easter at Blaha.
On Easter Saturday, 7 April, from 11am, we will again be holding a special food distribution in Budapest, at Blaha Lujza Square. We are planning an extraordinary event similar to our traditional Christmas relief action, with around 1200 food and food parcels to be distributed in the capital, not only to the people of the capital.
Our volunteers will be providing the usual nutritious, tasty vegetarian lunch and a rich, long-lasting food parcel to those in need at Easter, but in addition to a variety of sweets, we will also be trying to cheer up the children with chocolate eggs. In addition to food, we will also be distributing clothes and toys, and we are looking for donations from the public. In the spring, during the transitional period of waste disposal, we hope that the good quality toys and clothes that were disposed of during the clean-up and scrapping will not be thrown away, but will be sent to us in a cleaned state.
1) at our head office at 15-17 Lehel u., 3rd district, Monday to April 6, 8 am to 8 pm, or
2) on 7 April from 9-12 at Blaha Lujza Square, at our tents in the Corvin parking lot.
In addition to donations, helping hands will also be needed on Saturday, so volunteers who would like to help with the campaign are welcome to contact [email protected].
This spring's large-scale food distribution is not the first of its kind. In 2000, we organised a similar relief operation in the same area, although the queue was much smaller. This year we are organising several special events to help families who have been hit hard by the economic crisis in recent years. For many families, the Easter period is like Christmas, a time of togetherness, relaxation and feasting, while for others it is a time of financial hardship. Our volunteers, with nearly two decades of experience, want to bring together an extraordinary social coalition to help our fellow human beings. The Easter weekend is particularly difficult for many families, with many children unable to get enough food at home during the spring break due to the lack of nursery and school meals, and it is even more difficult for parents to provide food over a long weekend. In addition, going without food during the festive season can be emotionally stressful. This is where they want to offer support. We are confident that fast, spontaneous, simply organised help with direct devotion and interpersonal love is the most effective way to help those around us out of their distress.
