National Christmas charity

For over 20 years, Krishna devotees have been serving the underprivileged in society by distributing free food. Our Christmas campaigns now cover the whole country, but of course the capital is where most of the donations are collected. The programme covers 8 counties in addition to Budapest, with relief operations taking place in a total of 18 locations at various times.

In Budapest, we provide festive gifts for five different target groups in five different locations.

For the families recommended by the Óbuda Family Counselling and Child Protection Centre, we are offering 400 hot meals and a generous food parcel to enable families to save money for the festive preparations. This event was held last year.

We also provide food parcels to 20 refugees cared for by the Far from Home Foundation. In this way, we can help those in need who have been forced to leave their homes because of war, human rights atrocities or natural disasters.

On 20 December, we will deliver 200 portions of sweets and food parcels to the Special Educational and Developmental Institute. The institution, located in the Havana housing estate, supports families of children with learning and intellectual disabilities who live and raise their children in a cumulatively disadvantaged situation. This fun event is popular with young people and carers alike, and we organise it several times a year.

On 24-25-26 December, from 13:00 onwards, we will be holding our now traditional large-scale Love Feast in Blaha Lujza Square, where we will not discriminate between those in the queue. The downtown square, which becomes deserted during the festive season, will be transformed into a real village, with a 12-metre-long tent serving cold packs and hot food. In addition to a meal, Indian cranberry pudding, hot tea and a truly sumptuous food parcel, including tinned food, sugar, soft drinks, fruit, flour, dry pasta, sweets, yoghurt and soap, are also available. You can also take away a book gift or choose from several bags of warm clothes on the spot.

5. Through the Victim Support Service of the Office of Justice, we provide 25 food parcels to people who have been left without money due to some kind of crime (theft, burglary, etc.). Our gift will help these unfortunate people to celebrate Christmas in a worthy way.

Somogy county
On 23 December, 700 portions of Indian hot food (main course, steamed rice, puri) and sweets will be distributed to the local population in Somogyvámos. The food will be delivered to all villagers in warm boxes.
Between the two holidays, we will provide 120 gift packs of flour, rice, sugar, oil, oranges and Christmas cakes for the pensioners of the village.

In Kaposvár, 120 needy families will receive a 7-8 kg food parcel for the holidays. Each family will also receive a book as a gift.

We also deliver cold food parcels and reading material to 50 families in need in villages around Marcal. The aid will be given to families registered as needy by the Mayor's Office.

Hajdú-Bihar county
On 26 December, between 12 and 14 pm, the monks of our church will welcome 150 people in the courtyard of the Govinda Cultural Centre at Magyari u. 2 in Debrecen. The lunch, consisting of bean goulash, bread, halava and hot tea, will be served mainly to the needy, delegated by the local child protection institution, the family support service and SZETA.

Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county
In Miskolc, we will be hosting nearly 200 needy people on the weekend before Christmas, who will be notified by the Red Cross and the Maltese Relief Service. The vegetarian menu will be served on Europa Square at 12 noon.

In the Ózd region, food distribution takes place at the beginning of the year, as several organisations provide support during the holidays, and many families use up their reserves during the holidays, so help is also welcome at the beginning of the year.

Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county
In Szolnok, the capital of the county, we will surprise the underage children of the local social institution Diáktanya with sweets. The institution organises a Christmas programme on 23 December for children from disadvantaged families with livelihood problems, and we sweeten the festive season with our own sacred cakes.

Heves county
At the Erk municipality's Santa Claus celebrations, children from local minority families benefited from our support, and the participants at the celebrations in early December were in tears of joy as they received the unusual gift.

Also in January, the residents of the Krishna Church in Eger will hold a food distribution event, providing 100 portions of hot meals, bread and hot tea to disadvantaged families in Eger.

Győr-Moson-Sopron county
In Mosonmagyaróvár, a festive food distribution will also take place at the beginning of next year, as Christmas reserves are often exhausted by then, often leaving families in need.

Baranya county
On 19 December, the residents of the Day Care Centre for the Disabled in Pécs will receive support from our organisation, with bean goulash, halava, bread and fruit.

Csongrád county
The long-established congregation of our church in Szeged will also organise a Christmas action on 23 December, in the framework of which it will provide a hot lunch for nearly 100 local people in need, in cooperation with the Maltese Relief Service.
