The first partnership meeting for our Pizza Effect grant program took place in Jandelsbrunn, Germany, between November 30 and December 3, 2013. The meeting included introductions by the participating organizations, the development of the project work plan, clarification of cooperation methods, and the assignment of responsibilities and expected tasks. In addition, several cooking workshops were held, during which each participating country prepared a traditional dish from their home country and demonstrated their own cooking techniques. Working together provided an opportunity for intercultural learning and allowed the partners to get to know one another better and to explore the cultures and cuisines of each other’s countries. The prepared meals were later distributed to those in need within the local community.
The German hosts—in an effort to promote healthy and mindful eating—organized a visit to the local mayor’s office, and a program featuring a meal distribution took place at a local preschool. These events were very well received by the local community, and an article and a photo report on the events appeared in the local press.
