Our Food for Life Foundation spent Christmas 2019 in the square for the 30th time. The Krishna devotees who began this mission in our country set a fine example, and we are continuing their diligent work and efforts in line with our goals. Our goal is to ensure that every fellow human being has not only enough food on the table—but food of adequate quality as well. It is also our aim to restore people’s sense of security and faith through this gesture—by alleviating basic hardships and filling their stomachs, we can shift their focus slightly toward life’s higher purposes.

Food for Life organized Advent campaigns in 14 communities and ran the fantastic „Like a Bite of Bread” programs—from maternity homes to shelters for the homeless, to schools for children with disabilities and other very poor areas in the micro-region. We also celebrated Christmas at our permanent food distribution sites, and spent the holidays in Népliget, distributing nearly 4,000 meals and, there alone, handing out 100 metric tons of non-perishable food as part of the care packages. A week earlier, we hosted 800 families in Óbuda.

Life doesn't stop in January either, our daily food distributions continue as usual; along with a hot lunch, thanks to the Hungarian Food Bank Association, we distribute supplementary items—vegetables, fruits, baked goods, sweets—whatever is fresh and available. Anyone in need of help is warmly welcome at Népliget every weekday from 12:00 to 12:45.

Meanwhile, we deliver 400 meals a day to the various units of the Budapest Methodological Social Center and its affiliated institutions, six days a week. In other words, we’re not slowing down—we’re continuing our mission at full steam.
