As the school year comes to an end, many children face the problem of not having enough to eat. Our foundation supports summer camps across the country with food donations, providing children in need with meaningful activities.
One such opportunity is offered at a kobudo martial arts training camp—now in its 27th year—where 40 underprivileged children are among the regular campers. We provide participants with a hot lunch, bread and yogurt, or fruit. Every year, the founder of this Hungarian martial art—which has Japanese origins—personally provides children in need with the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of this art and to join the program. The goal of the camp, which also fosters personal development, is to enable them to use what they learn here to overcome the obstacles that prevent their reintegration into society. The camp is also very beneficial for them because, in addition to physical training, this martial arts style places great emphasis on spiritual training, during which students learn respect, honor, humility, and kindness from their masters.
From June 30 to July 11, our volunteers in Pécs will provide breakfast and an afternoon snack for the 45 participants in a school day camp. There are 85 children attending this school, and according to the teachers, 90% of them come from disadvantaged families. Since most of the children receive their only meals at school, and the local government only funds their lunches during the summer, the school has asked our foundation for help in supplementing their meals. Our local volunteers are still recruiting sponsors, bakeries, and fruit and vegetable vendors for the campaign so that as many people as possible can be part of this joyful event.
The Foundation also supports another program—the summer camp for students at the Könyves Kálmán Elementary School in Kartal—where 60 children from disadvantaged backgrounds receive assistance. We already collaborated with the school last summer, and the donation of non-perishable food items was a huge help to both the organizers and the campers. Among other things, they will receive milk, cereal bars, and canned goods, which they will eat for snacks and breakfast.
It is an honor for our organization to support initiatives that help achieve several noble goals at once. We believe our food is going to the best possible place this time.
