The “Food for Life” Food Assistance Program for the Poor will continue its now-traditional series of special Christmas food distribution events in December 2015. Volunteers with the program will be active nationwide Food and packages of non-perishable food items will be distributed in 8 cities, in Budapest, Pécs, Győr, Debrecen, Szeged, Kecskemét, Marcali, and Eger. Food distribution means something different to everyone in need: for some, without these food donations, there would be nothing to put on the table; for other families, it helps cover winter heating costs or pays for food during school meal breaks between holidays.

For nearly two decades, Food for Life has been helping those in need across the country. Its beneficiaries range from large families, people on small pensions, those with disabilities, the sick, or the unemployed, all the way to borrowers who have become insolvent or even victims of fraud. As the volunteers themselves say: There are so many paths leading down, and the climb back up is grueling… Through collaboration and the strength of the community—which is provided to participants by a one-on-one support network, particularly through cooperation with local Family Support Services—all of this is made possible by years of dedicated and tireless work! TheFor decades, the motto of “Food for Life” has been that if we provide a family with their basic food needs, those in need will have the opportunity to focus on other areas of life and achieve success. Whether that means a good job, a decent rental apartment, a sense of accomplishment in one’s career, or even pursuing new studies.
Furthermore, the Program follows the the view from our house its founding principle; those who work here firmly believe that If everyone helps and supports those in their immediate community, we can achieve equality without any major social organization, and everyone will have enough to eat.
2015 was a year of devastating upheavals around the world, and we can safely say it was a year marked by mass migration triggered by disasters, wars, climate change, and other crises. Our volunteers were present in the transit zones at train stations and alongside the migrant trains crossing the border. However, while helping those who arrive is natural and important, we must emphasize that the series of actions taking place right here at home is even more important, and we hope that everyone will follow our example. Poverty is not only evident among those passing through our country; it also makes life difficult for our fellow citizens who live among us 365 days a year, making it impossible. As the holiday season approaches, we are therefore preparing special holiday initiatives; throughout the month of December, we will be serving nearly 10,000 bowls of hot meals to those in need.
A lot of hard work is going on at our organization; donations are pouring in, and Christmas packages are being prepared, filled with all sorts of goodies. Our staff and volunteers are working feverishly, doing everything in their power to achieve our goals to the fullest extent possible.
On St. Nicholas Day, December 6 our team from Győr It is treating 100 children to candy, fruit packs, and coloring books.
In Pécs A holiday food distribution will take place from December 24 to 26. The team of volunteers will visit homeless shelters and treat 100 people in need to a holiday dinner each day, welcoming them at beautifully set tables.
Egerben With Christmas approaching, members of our program will distribute 300 packages of non-perishable food and hot meals to the city’s needy on December 19. Szeged In addition to the regular Friday noon meal distribution, on December 21 our volunteers will prepare a one-dish meal for 300 people, which will be distributed to those in need at the warming center on Családi Street.
In Debrecen A Christmas food distribution for 150 people will be held on December 19. From Kecskemét Our staff will be cooking for 150 people on each of the following dates: December 23, 27, and 28.
Marcali Food and package distribution will also take place in the city this year, starting at 11:30 a.m. on December 23, when 200 portions of non-perishable food packages and hot meals will be provided to people in need. In Somogyvámos Later that afternoon, sweets and a hot lunch will be distributed to 650 people from the local community.
A In the capital, on December 19, we will kick off our special series of events with a holiday food distribution in Óbuda. For 800 people– for the people receiving care from the family support service – the organizers are preparing special treats and useful cooking ingredients. December 24, 25, and 26 The now-traditional Christmas food distribution in Budapest is coming up, starting at 11 a.m. on all three days at Blaha Lujza Square you can meet our volunteers. With about 150 volunteers and celebrities on hand each day, this is perhaps Budapest’s largest public food drive. Here 1,500 per day Food packages (containing 25 different items), as well as 1,600 servings of hot meals and hot Indian sweets, will be distributed. On the 24th, we’ll once again surprise the children with toys, which the little ones look forward to more than anything. We’d like to express our gratitude to to the supporters of the campaign: Budapest Municipal Government, Budapest Municipal Law Enforcement Directorate, Hungarian Food Bank Association, Simba Toys Ltd., Nagybani Market Inc., Corvin Department Store, Gyolai Ltd., Csodaest Ltd., Govinda Vegasarok, Kalács Ltd., IN-KAL Security, Mobiltoalett Ltd., FKF Ltd., Szilasfood Ltd., Detki Keksz Ltd., Holosys Ltd., Than és Partner Ltd., Panama Group Ltd., Adomix Conto Ltd.
It is particularly interesting that the NOÉ Animal Shelter Foundation It also thinks of the four-legged friends of those we serve. The organization has been a part of our food distributions for years. On December 26 of this year, it will be waiting for participating pet owners with 1,000 portions of dog and cat food. The organizers ask that no one bring their pets to the food distribution (due to smells and crowds); please just pick up the food intended for your pets and take it home! Based on the feedback we’ve received, this support provides significant financial relief to many pet owners.
Our foundation’s assistance reaches many places, easing the burdens of those in need. For many people, this bowl of food provides their one meal of the day; others use the contents of the food packages to cook meals for up to a week. Many people need support—a little human warmth and care. Our experience shows that through our work, we can help others get through the hardest moments, weeks, years, or even an entire lifetime… For those for whom Christmas goes beyond the joys of consumerism, the endless shopping, and gift-giving, and who would like to enrich these moments spiritually as well, it might be worth joining our initiative for half a day or supporting our efforts—let caring be the crowning glory of the holiday season.
Thank you in advance for your support!
