Starting Monday, February 24, those interested can find our organization’s daily food distribution at the end of Ötvenhatosok Square (formerly Felvonulás Square) on the side facing Ajtósi Dürer Street. The time remains the same; we continue to welcome those in need at 12:00 p.m.

The location of the food distributions that have been taking place at Blaha Lujza Square since 1989 has been moved several times in recent years; but at the Public Space Utilization Committee meeting held on February 19, the Budapest City Government definitively designated and approved the new downtown food distribution site for us.

Since as many as 500 people use the service daily, a public space proved to be the most suitable location for the soup kitchen. The majority of those in need come from the downtown districts, so an important consideration in selecting the location was to designate a well-trafficked public space in Pest for lunch distribution—one with good infrastructure, yet where the daily distribution would cause the least disruption to residents. Thus, the choice fell on the section of Ötvenhatosok Square facing Ajtósi Dürer Street, which is close to both Thököly Road and Keleti Railway Station, so hopefully previous visitors will be able to easily reach the new distribution point as well.

We will always notify those affected separately via all available communication channels regarding the location and time of our special food distributions held throughout the year.

Mayor István Tarlós and the Budapest Municipal Law Enforcement Authority both played a major role in identifying a new long-term venue and navigating the permitting process. On behalf of those in need, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for their helpful efforts! We thank the Józsefváros District Government for providing space for the service for many months at Teleki László Square and Blaha Lujza Square, keeping the interests of those in need in mind, as well as to the XIVth District Municipality for agreeing to host the service in the future and ensuring its uninterrupted operation. Thanks to our supporters, food distribution did not have to be suspended for a single day, which is of great importance, first and foremost, to those who rely on our meals.
