Krishna devotees have been working to assist refugees since February 26. Their “Food for Life” humanitarian program continuously delivers hot meals to those fleeing the war in Ukraine—in addition to providing regular daily meals to those in need in Hungary (2,000 people per day) (+2,000 meals). The food aid campaign has four focal points: border crossings, Indian students, reception centers, and support for those across the border.
Refugees arriving in our country are being cared for at border crossings, in accordance with local needs, while meals for the thousands of Indian students being evacuated to India via Hungary are provided at collection points in Budapest. Volunteers also deliver hot lunches to the capital’s refugee shelters and to Nyugati Railway Station, and they have sent aid— including blankets, canned goods, and everyday items.
The “Food for Life” humanitarian program is able to serve fresh, hot, and nutritious meals to both refugees and rescue workers, even in chaotic situations. Thanks to the involvement of Krishna temples and the congregation throughout the country, the church is also actively involved in providing shelter for refugees. In addition, it provides spiritual support and regularly organizes peace meditations to help resolve the situation as soon as possible. The church welcomes support from the public for this relief effort.
