Last night we were in Tiszabecs again; meanwhile, of course, we also provided meals for several hundred Indian students in the capital, who are being housed by the Indian Embassy in various hostels and hotels until the next flight from India arrives to take them home.
Most of the students were quite exhausted from the long trip. Their credit cards don’t work in Europe, their phones don’t have SIM cards, and they’re completely dependent on the circumstances and the kindness of the organizers and volunteers. For days, they’ve been surviving on cookies, chips, or other snacks. They were especially grateful for the hot meal, which was an Indian dish consisting of rice and sabzi—a spicy vegetable sauce. Since refugees are arriving continuously, even much more food would have been needed at these shelters. The Indian Embassy and its volunteers are doing a fantastic job helping to rescue these young people. It’s wonderful to see civilians, professional organizations, and charities working together in this way to help those in need.
Meanwhile, we are receiving an increasing number of inquiries from across the border as well, and we are doing our best to process these requests and respond to them.
