Thousands of servings of hot meals for survivors of the earthquakes in Turkey

The members of the food distribution mission in Turkey got up very early, since it’s still -2 degrees at night—it actually felt good to fire up the cooking pots and get to work. At the suggestion of the military, our food distribution team set up camp in a suburban area south of Antakya, as atrocities had unfortunately occurred in the inner parts of the city.

The boys have already served more than 400 meals to the local residents for breakfast! The menu consists of hot lentil soup, cheese, bread, and olives, in keeping with local tradition. The earthquake caused the most destruction in this region; nearly every building was damaged, and many collapsed completely. The people are immensely grateful for the help. As part of this initiative, in which Turkish and Hungarian Krishna devotees are participating together, mission members plan to distribute thousands of servings of nutritious one-dish meals.
The team cooks more than once a day; they also serve dinner at 4:30 p.m. The earth was still shaking in the Kahramanmaraş region as recently as yesterday, and the death toll has risen to over 34,000; the region’s population truly needs all the international aid it can get right now!

Food for Life has been serving the Hungarian population for 30 years and has already participated in numerous international relief efforts. Its main focus is the distribution of hot meals, which are simple, nutritious, and very rich, fresh, vegetarian dishes, thus causing no harm or pain to animals. At the same time, these are foods offered to God and consecrated, which nourish not only the body but also the soul. Krishna devotees consider it their important duty to alleviate the suffering of their fellow human beings in this material world as much as possible. During such disasters and similar crises, people need not only physical nourishment but also spiritual knowledge, which helps them understand the reasons behind the chaotic events unfolding in the world. The humanitarian program is one of the most beautiful expressions of service to humanity.
