Although it will be a bit different this year, there will still be a Christmas food drive
6,500 food aid packages will be distributed during the 30th Christmas campaign. Due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the usual food distribution at Blaha Lujza Square has been canceled, as maintaining social distancing at an event with 1,600 people would mean the line would stretch all the way to Tabán. Although this large-scale food distribution cannot be replaced, and its absence will certainly make Christmas more difficult for many, the Krishna devotees have nevertheless prepared 6,500 […]
We collected 7 metric tons of food!
This weekend, we participated in the Hungarian Food Bank Association’s public food drive, which was joined by hundreds of stores and hundreds of charitable organizations. We collected non-perishable food donations at three locations, and despite having to maintain social distancing, it was a wonderful opportunity to meet you all in person—those of you who want to change the lives of your fellow human beings through your kindness! Over the course of three days, three […]
Only give others what you would expect for yourself
Attila Szanyi-Karl, whose spiritual name is Bhakta Vatsala Dasa, joined the foundation in 2014 and became the program director a year later. Most of his work involves organizing food distributions and handling behind-the-scenes tasks, but what he enjoys most is serving lunch to the guests himself. We spoke with the director of the Food for Life Foundation about her daily routine, challenges, and the coronavirus […]
700 kg of food for the residents of the wine press houses
„Our ”Like a Bite of Bread” program has just wrapped up a truly large-scale initiative. Last weekend, they helped 200 people in the Szigetvár region with a total of 700 kg of food. The recipients here are mostly large families and single retirees, most of whom live in wine press houses under very difficult conditions. For them, this food package is practically the equivalent of a Christmas gift. The generous food package includes non-perishable […]
Ivád and Váraszó: We helped 350 people
Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. How do we fight it? We strive to give faith and hope to every family in need and to bring warmth into their lives through our food distributions. Last year alone, our „Like a Bite of Bread” program visited 49 rural villages, while we also continued our food distributions at our larger distribution centers. Most recently, our rural food distribution program visited the towns of Ivád and Váraszó, […]
Where Every Day Is Food Day
On October 16, we celebrate World Food Day, and on the 17th, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. We Hungarians can be proud that today’s special day, World Food Day, was added to the calendar decades ago as a result of a Hungarian initiative. The purpose of these international days is to draw attention to the need to end hunger and to enable professional organizations to share ideas on how to eradicate poverty […]
Donations of notebooks in Somogy County
Our main focus is food distribution, but sometimes we’re able to help students in other ways as well. Recently, we delivered notebooks to students in need at the Unified Special Education Methodology Institute in Somogyvár. Later, we visited the young artists at the Gáspár Noszlopy Elementary School in Marcali, and then the Szent László Elementary School in Somogyvár. Thanks to the Somogyvámos team for this great initiative! 🙂 Every child […]
„Like a Bite of Bread” Campaigns Across the Country
A fantastic event in Békéscsaba! This time, the „Like a Bite of Bread” program provided assistance to a temporary shelter for families, a special education institution, and families in severe need in the region. Of our 250 guests, 150 were children! Thanks to the fantastic fundraising and donations from our local volunteers, we treated our guests to egg-free doughnuts, apples, and non-perishable food items. Oil, rice, yellow peas, popcorn, chocolate, rice, flour, as well as peas, sugar, tea, and canned goods were also […]
We'll resume food distribution starting Friday, September 4!
Dear Guests! We are pleased to announce that our food distribution service will resume this Friday in both Budapest and Eger. Our food distributors are not only in perfect health, but they have all tested negative for the coronavirus. This was necessary because an active member of our church community had previously tested positive for the virus. Although the food distribution team had no direct contact with the infected person and everyone is asymptomatic, for safety reasons […]
Our food distribution will be suspended for a few days
Dear Guests! On August 31, a member of our church’s congregation in Budapest tested positive for COVID-19. We would like to emphasize that the person in question did NOT participate in our foundation’s food distribution activities, and our food distributors are completely healthy and asymptomatic! However, for safety reasons, we are testing our food distributors, and we are temporarily suspending our activities until the test results are received. We believe it is important to take every precautionary measure to protect everyone’s health. <3 […]
